Merry Christmas from Hope for the Rio Dulce

Categories: Hope for the Rio Dulce Update

We hope all is well with you and yours this wonderful Christmas season.

It has been a while since our last update, but be assured that our team of in Guatemala and the United States is hard at work finding ways to improve the lives of our brothers and sisters in need.

At this time of reflection and giving, we would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to all that have donated their time and money in service of our brothers and sisters in Guatemala.

Your efforts have made a genuine difference in the lives of real people. Everyone we meet out in the villages always asks us to send their thanks to all those who have donated. They know that it is you who make their dreams for a better future possible.

Over the past few years, your donations have helped to:

  • Open 8 elementary schools, previously abandoned
  • Found a Junior High School in a remote village, complete with dorms, Computer Lab, and Solar Power
  • Provide scholarships to over 100 impoverished students
  • Provide humanitarian aid and various projects to villagers in need
  • Support the local Church
  • Train and develop local leaders – many of whom are becoming vocal leaders in their communities
  • ..and much more

This fall we teamed up to host a weeklong medical mission with Tino Hernandez and the St. Francis Medical Mission. See a quick note about the mission below.

We also inaugurated a new bridge that connects a large rural village to the outer world. Previously when the river flooded the villagers had no way in or out. See the picture on this page and a story on page 3.

We also received a generous donation from the Diocese of Austin Ashes to Easter fund that will be used to build a dormitory for female High School students – so that they will have a place to live and go to school in the area’s main town.

Thanks again to all for their support
